Directors of listed Hong Kong companies have been increasing the purchases of their own shares after a lull in this kind of activity earlier in the year. Also, rather intriguingly, Berkshire Hathaway has made a US$1.2 billion buy-back of company shares. The purchase defies US investment guru (and Berkshire head) Warren Buffett's own maxims.

Purchases by company directors sharply lower as sales remain high

Insider sentiment in Samsonite is not entirely positive this year.

Buying of their own company shares by directors plunged last week, but sales remained high, based on filings made to the stock exchange for the second week of October.

Insider purchases were reported by 28 companies with 107 deals worth HK$32.5 million, compared with 15 companies that reported 90 disposals worth HK$65.8 million.
