Safari Disco Club Yelle (CD)

French trio Yelle are back in top form with the release of their second album, Safari Disco Club. The electropop beats that made them so popular in the first place have been perfected in the five years since their last release. Staying true to their roots, the songs are sung entirely in French.

Terry Francis

Sept 10, 11pm, Homebase

As overnight sensations go, Terry Francis was a long time coming.

There's little doubt winning Muzik magazine's best new DJ award in 1997 was the spark that ignited Francis' career but, as the story goes, even way back then 'new' hardly told the full story.

Music go Music

Music go Music Expressions (Secretly Canadian)

North American alternative bands seem to fall into one of two categories at the moment: the dour, drab and deliberately abstruse, like Arcade Fire, or the glitzy, genre-aping likes of MGMT. Music Go Music fall somewhere in between.

Sleazy antics finally catch up with Fenwick's

Fenwick the Dock, one of the city's most notorious late-night discos, will close tomorrow morning, just as the biggest drinking weekend of the year gets under way.

Cradle rock

Mums with strollers and baby-toting dads aren't the types you'd expect to see queuing outside the city's nightspots. But on a recent Sunday afternoon, a club in Wan Chai traded its usual clientele of hip, young things for a group of parents who haven't quite hung up their dancing shoes.

Neighbours claim area has long been a haven for unlicensed venues

Residents of Shenzhen's Longgang district, where 43 people died in the nightclub fire on Saturday, say the area has been a haven for unlicensed entertainment venues for years.

Longgang is home to hundreds of bars, karaoke parlours and nightclubs - legal and illegal - as well as thousands of factories and hundreds of thousands of young migrant workers.

Heroes and villains hit birthday bash

Dragon-i co-founder Gilbert Yeung kei-lung celebrated his 41st birthday with a superhero-themed party at his Wyndham Street hot spot on August 23 - and the bash rightly added to his partying reputation. Costumes, drinks and hedonism were in abundance as the birthday boy arrived looking every bit the Joker from this summer's Batman movie.

on style, she rules

I am so happy about the return of 1970s-style fashion but where can I find some boob tubes with sequins like the ones we used to wear?

Yule's gold

Dark dance floors and concert halls tend to look the same at Christmas and New Year's Eve as they do the rest of the year. And few DJs dare drop Jingle Bell Rock - not even the Billy Idol version - or a synth-ripped Auld Lang Syne. But local party planners are nonetheless hoping to bring the spirit of the holidays to Hong Kong.
