Luxury brands put own hands on deck

Luxury brands are increasingly reclaiming distribution rights from their mainland agents to assert tighter control of sales channels and better meet the growing sophistication of shoppers in the world's biggest luxury market.

The latest example is British fashion house Jimmy Choo, which has acquired its China business from partner Kutu.

Video rental wrangle resolved as film distributors lower demands

A dispute over movie rental fees appeared to be resolved yesterday when film distributors agreed to lower their wholesale charges to video rental shops.

This has also given the green light to gazetting of copyright legislation this week.

Distributors had wanted shops to pay them up to 100 per cent of a video disc's wholesale price each time they rented it out.

Vendors sticking to clean-up deadline

I refer to the letter from R. J. Campbell headlined 'Vendors littering with impunity' (South China Morning Post, May 2), concerning the litter problem caused by newspaper distributors operating in Central district.

Central has long been one of the newspaper-distribution centres in Hong Kong.
