That's a sheep shot

During the 1980s and '90s, it was all the rage for some Hong Kong celebrities and tai-tais to disappear from public view and re-emerge a few weeks later looking much younger.

And the key to this magical makeover? Sheep - or more precisely lambs residing in the Swiss Alps.

On the edge of a desert, an old market thrives and enchants

The road leading into Kashgar's livestock market is a veritable animal jam, a quagmire of unruly sheep, cows, horses and donkeys, all pulling in different directions.

Above the bleating, mooing and hawing, one can hear the herders shouting 'Posh! Posh!' , 'Get out of the way'.

Hard cheese

The Ardi Gasna ( blog isn't so much about eating food, rather it's about the making of it - sheep's-milk cheese, to be specific. Rebecca King, who started a sheep dairy farm in California, in the United States, writes about the business in all its (sometimes gory) glory, so don't expect posts about cute little lambs gambolling happily in green pastures.

Meat in point

Imagine eating the same steak year in year out. We're not talking about the same breed of cow, or cows from one unbroken lineage (something of an obsession for certain Japanese when it comes to Kobe beef, which is sometimes served with the cow's birth certificate on display).

Hong Kong plays an inflated and sheepish role for the Welsh in today's FA Cup final

Wales is a nation of the UK famed for its singing, rugby ... and sheep. Welsh folk have long tried to shrug off stereotypical associations with the woolly, four-legged ruminants that bleat 'baah' in unison, but we now learn that Hong Kong is playing a part in ramming home the jibes often thrown at the Welsh during sporting events between them and their old enemy - England.

Is it a colour?

Depending on who you ask, black may or may not be a colour. A scientist will tell you black is the absence of all colours in terms of light mixing. But if you ask a painter then it is a colour because you can splodge it on a canvas, and you don't have colourless paint.

Black sheep girl

The fantasy world of local artist Carrie Chau Wun-ying is anything but the happy-go-lucky cartoon wonderland that a quick glance at her illustrations might suggest.

Clad in deep colours and sporting wistful expressions, her seemingly joyful characters are tinged with sadness.
