Chan answers selectors with starring role

Sun Hei keeper Chan Ka-ki answered a second snub by the Hong Kong FA in less than a month with another man-of-the-match performance in the league champions' 1-0 triumph over third-placed South China at Hong Kong Stadium yesterday.

Valley bag seven

Striker Keith Gumbs hammered a hat-trick as rampant Happy Valley beat Fukien 7-1 in a Hong Kong First Division match at Mongkok Stadium yesterday. Valley never looked back after former South China midfielder Ailton De Araujo, playing only his second game for the club, set them on their way with an early goal. Valley were 7-0 up before Alejandro Ramirez scored a late consolation for Fukien.

South China finished top of Group B in the League Cup following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sun Hei - but the Caroliners paid a heavy price for victory at Mongkok Stadium last night. Local striker Au Wai-lun struck a low drive in the 76th minute for the only goal in a match that saw more red cards than goals.

Rangers win with 10 men

Hong Kong: Buler Rangers shot to second in the First Division standings after South Korean left-winger Kim Pan-gon scored the only goal of the game two minutes from time to help 10-man Rangers overcome Double Flowers at Mongkok yesterday. Rangers, who had made all three substitutes, went a man down when keeper Goldbert Chi-chiu was forced to retire with a head injury in the 73rd minute.
