Here come the brides - in all their Oscar glory

New York-based high fashion brand Oscar de la Renta's director of global bridal sales, Shanna Chaityn, visited Hong Kong for the first time last week to help brides find their perfect dress for the big day.

Stylishly elegant

Times used to be much simpler for brides-to-be when it came to picking their wedding dresses. The only exceptions to the rule were contrary celebrity figures, such as Bianca Jagger who tied the knot with Mick Jagger in a sleek, white smoking tuxedo jacket by Yves Saint Laurent, and Marilyn Monroe, who said 'I do' to her second husband Joe DiMaggio in a cute, brown suit.

On style, she rules

Ever since I saw that Jil Sander collared dress in a fashion magazine, I've been obsessed with finding the perfect one for me. Where can I find a crisp summer shirt dress? (The one from the picture is too long!)

Moment and Eternity

Moment and Eternity Third Floor, Singapore

At first sight, Japanese artist Shinji Ohmaki's latest work is like a delicate floral mandala, or a colourful tattoo blooming on pristine white skin. Yet, beneath the motifs - inspired by traditional kimono patterns - are intimations of death and destruction.

Dare to be different

Sequins help the stars sparkle at awards night

If you're going to leave an awards ceremony empty handed, you might as well at least steal the show on the red carpet.

But this year's Hong Kong Film Awards were less flamboyant than last year, with the stars apparently toning down their wardrobe choices.

The sequinned gown proved a favourite on the red carpet.

Liberty belles

Last year was one for famous weddings, with the two Kates (Middleton and Moss) headlining, and it has set off several trends in modern bridal dresses that will be making an appearance as spring nuptials take over this year.

On style, she rules

I just love Lana Del Rey's style, especially that dress she wore on Saturday Night Live, but all I seem to read about is her performance. I heard something about Louis Vuitton, but the lace dresses there looked different somehow. Please tell me: where can I buy that dress?

Personal touch works

Ouch! The dresses that would deter the most enthusiastic of models go on display

The Louis Vuitton Mansion in Canton Road has stocked up on 'dresses' that not even the most diligent model would want to slip into.

The garments - made of stainless steel, copper, shredded paper and used T-shirts - are part of 'The Art of Dress' exhibition, which opened on Friday and is curated by art consultant Jonathan Thomson.

Cocktail dresses

Hong Kong party-goers need little excuse to don their finery. But Christmas brings out a new level of glamour. Just because it is cold outside doesn't mean we have to be all covered-up: a flash of back is sexy, especially with the return of the floor-length gowns.

How to crack the festive dress code

While the holidays are a great time to experiment with different looks, there are some pieces that should be left in the closet. Novelty jumpers, flapper dresses (that's next season!) and tops with so much decoration they rival your Christmas tree. A perennial favourite, however, is the sequinned dress.
