Frenchman warms to his task to claim dramatic HK victory

Frenchman Tony Moulai pulled off a dramatic victory in yesterday's Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Premium Asian Cup at Disneyland, with a hand-timed 10km run of 30 minutes and 21 seconds.

Moulai was one of several competitors to lose the ankle-strapped timing chip during the 1,500m sea swim, and so did not record computerised split times for the swim-bike-run event.

Hard work pays off as HK shine in Philippines

The Hong Kong team claimed seven gold medals at the Asian Aquathon Championships and Asian Duathlon Championships over the weekend in the Philippines.

The Aquathon Championships featured a 2.5km run followed by a 1km swim and then another 2.5km run. Samuel Leung posted a time of 35 minutes and nine seconds to finish third overall and first in the men's under-23 category.

Runners and bikers looking to go beyond the beaten tracks will have three new races to add to their calendars as Hong Kong prepares to host its first major off-road duathlon and triathlon races later this year.

But race director and course designer Michael Maddess hopes the new Gatorade Action Asia Off-Road Series will also draw more new athletes to the outdoors.
