Bowing to the mighty rodent

On Wednesday, we all thought Hong Kong was home and dry. As the Financial Secretary sat down after delivering his Budget, it seemed a racing certainty that Disneyland was coming to Lantau.

Wrong time for taboos

Iam all for 'issues' in films. If a film-maker can tackle a taboo at the same time as creating an entertaining movie, then all well and good.

Problems that are seldom discussed in the living room can be confronted on film, breaking down barriers that appeared as impenetrable as the Berlin Wall.

But there is a time and a place.

Questioning Dumbo's parentage

HERE'S one to put the wind up the Dan Quayle School of Family Values. Nowhere in Walt Disney's 1941 animated film Dumbo (Pearl 8.30, ORT 64 mins) is there so much as a hint as to the identity of the big-eared baby elephant's father. He's never mentioned, never seen and certainly not around to help Mrs Jumbo through that difficult birth (the stork gets lost, you know).
