Chef steps up with a menu shake-up after move to Yau Ma Tei

Instead of working in busy Mong Kok, chef Giovanni Pugliano now has to move all his kitchenware and trek to ... Yau Ma Tei. From executive sous chef at the Langham Place Hotel, he's now executive chef of the Eaton Hotel, part of the same hotel group but one MTR station down - and a promotional step up.

Tower of strength

The newly refurbished Eaton Hotel, in Tsim Sha Tsui, has opened a Japanese restaurant. The eatery, Yagura, which means 'tower', serves Japanese dishes with a western touch. The 2,200 sq ft space includes a sushi counter, a tempura bar and two semi-private rooms (above), and can seat up to 80 diners.

$100,000 card game arrests

Two men were arrested for allegedly cheating a businessman out of $100,000 in a card game in a Yau Ma Tei hotel. The 33-year-old businessman went to the Eaton Hotel at about 1.30pm for business negotiations but was told by the men to wait for their 'boss'. The men then started a card game in which the businessman lost. He called police who arrested the men as they went to collect the money.

Hotel raids

Three men wanted in connection with burglaries in hotels were arrested in the Eaton Hotel, Yau Ma Tei. Police said the trio were Malaysian and were members of a burglary syndicate also active in Thailand, Singapore and Taiwan.

Expansion at Eaton

GREAT Eagle Holdings plans to expand its Eaton Hotel at a cost of $67 million. It wants to build an extension, providing 13 extra floors on the east wing of the hotel, with a gross floor area of about 32,280 square feet.

The project will take about 13 months to complete.
