Hong Kong: Charles Adams, president of Asia-Pacific operations for United Parcel Service (UPS), will retire next month and is to be replaced by Ken Torok, who will be posted to Singapore. Mr Adams has held the position as UPS' top man in Asia for eight years, after joining the company in 1991.

UPS export volumes for Asia rise sharply in second quarter

United Parcel Service (UPS) has reported a double-digit increase in Asia-Pacific export volumes during the second quarter.

This comes despite earlier worries that shippers had been diverting traffic to other consolidators in response to the company's labour woes in the United States.

Japan launch leads drive to upgrade service

Hot on the heels of its competitors, United States-based carrier Northwest Airlines has announced plans to spend US$2 million to improve its eight Asian Web-sites, including one in Hong Kong.

The airline, which reported 6 per cent of ticket sales have been made online this year, on Friday launched secured online booking on its Japan site.

Now Action Asia claims that the logo is stolen. The adventure lifestyle magazine created it in 1992.

UPS unveils electronic tracking system

United Parcel Service (UPS) has introduced a package-tracking system that it claims will speed up deliveries and reduce the response time for enquiries to less than two minutes.

UPS managing director for Hong Kong Liu Kam-ming said the new Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) for its couriers in Hong Kong would improve the company's service quality significantly.
