Last year in Ohio, in the United States, 56 wild and potentially dangerous animals - including lions, tigers, bears, giraffes and wolves - were found running free in a rural area near a home-made zoo. The owner, 62-year-old Terry Thompson, had let the animals out of their cages before shooting himself.

Endangered monkeys make move to Ocean Park

With their blue faces and little snub-noses, two golden monkeys are the latest example of China's endangered wildlife to greet visitors to Ocean Park.

The pair moved in next to giant pandas An An and Jia Jia at the park's new Sichuan Treasures exhibit, which opened yesterday.

Pregnant pause for park's pandas

The honeymoon ended yesterday for Ocean Park's young giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le after three days tucked away from view to give them an opportunity to mate naturally.

But it seems they weren't up to the task.

So staff proceeded with two artificial inseminations on Ying Ying with Le Le's semen.

In recent years, habitats for China's national treasure have dwindled as a result of human encroachment and exploitation, pushing many species to the edge of extinction.

A paw education

The metal door opened and the young giant panda cautiously stuck out his head, peering inquisitively at the crowd of onlookers.

Nervously, he put his front paw down in his new enclosure and emerged for the first time.

It was one small step for Gongzai, but potentially a a giant leap for pandas born in captivity.

S. Africa wants to take rhino DNA samples

South Africa wants to send officials to Hong Kong to help investigate the city's largest seizure of rhino horns.
