A sailing superstar

Ellen MacArthur has dedicated most of her life to sailing, and that dedication paid off last year when she set a round-the-world solo record of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds aboard the 75-foot trimaran B&Q.

Mountainous seas, gale force winds, tangled rigging and sleep deprivation are just some of the hazards that have threatened to sink Ellen MacArthur and her 75-foot trimaran B&Q, but rarely has she had her hands gripped so tightly on the helm as she did trying to squeeze her vessel, 53-feet across the beam, into a berth in Shanghai with barely a metre to spare.

Britain's star yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur gets her first look at Victoria Harbour as she sails into Causeway Bay aboard the 75-foot trimaran B&Q yesterday.

MacArthur, who has spent a lonely and often arduous couple of years chasing solo titles, said she was relieved at being able to sail in the company of others aboard B&Q on the Asian Record Circuit 2006.

They will be sailing the 75-foot trimaran B&Q, the boat MacArthur sailed to set the round-the-world navigation record of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds in February last year.

MacArthur's bid for more glory

A year after breaking the solo round-the-world record, British sailor Ellen MacArthur believes there's a lot more to come.

MacArthur is looking to set 12 records during the upcoming Asian Record Circuit, which includes Hong Kong as one of its key cities.
