Energy drink may be responsible for 13 deaths in US

The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that it is investigating 13 deaths possibly linked to 5-Hour Energy, a so-called "energy shot" supplement, and is advising consumers to talk to their doctors before using any energy drinks.

The US Food and Drug Administration is investigating five deaths and a heart attack for possible links to consuming Monster energy drinks, an agency spokeswoman said.

"I can verify that FDA has received five adverse event reports of death and one of heart attack possibly associated with Monster energy drink," the FDA spokeswoman, Shelly Burgess, said.

Contaminated Lucozade drinks recalled

The Centre for Food Safety warned the public not to drink two types of Lucozade Sport Drinks after mould was found in the products. The drinks concerned are Lucozade Sport HydroActive (Citrus Fruits Flavour Drink) and Lucozade Sport HydroActive (Summer Fruits Flavour Drink), both made by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

Warning after local tests find cocaine in drink

Importers and retailers were urged yesterday to stop taking the caffeinated energy drink Red Bull after the government found it contained traces of cocaine.

The Government Laboratory confirmed that samples of Red Bull Cola, Red Bull Sugar-free and Red Bull Energy Drink contained 0.1 to 0.3 micrograms of cocaine per litre.

Drugs bureau tests Red Bull for cocaine

A government spokeswoman says the Security Bureau's narcotics division is conducting tests on the energy drink Red Bull after German and Taiwanese authorities found traces of cocaine in the brand's drinks. Teenage robber 'high' on caffeine

A teenage boy who drove 300km to rob a supermarket at knifepoint may have been delirious on the energy drink Red Bull, of which he drank more than 10 cans a day.

Psychiatric and medical evidence suggested the 17-year-old may have been suffering caffeine intoxication when he held up the supermarket wearing a balaclava and armed with a butterfly knife.

Solvent in bottle 'one-off accident'

POLICE investigating the poisoning of a worker who drank industrial solvent sold to him as a bottle of Lucozade Light expect to classify the case as an accident.

Tsuen Wan District Inspector Tim Bennett yesterday said investigations were almost complete and no charges were expected to be laid against the owner of the canteen where the bottle was bought.
