It's high time parents voiced their concerns about pollution

There are two things I cannot abide: noise pollution and air pollution. I have lived here for three short years and the air quality seems to be getting worse.  Now that I have a toddler and another baby on the way, my concerns have increased.

Northern China on health alert as smog worsens

People across much of northern China were warned to stay indoors yesterday to avoid air polllution that, in the Beijing area area at least, was among the worst for a decade.

Wan Chai hotel checked after 13 diners hit by food poisoning

Health officials are investigating an incident last week in which 13 people who dined at a Wan Chai hotel suffered food poisoning.

The five men and eight women suffered stomach aches, diarrhoea, vomiting and fever between four and 22 hours after dining at the Charterhouse Hotel in Wan Chai Road eight days ago.

Inspectors demand protection after attacks

Health inspectors are calling for more protection, because of attacks and intimidation.

Six attacks and 13 cases of intimidation of Urban and Regional Services health inspectors were reported in the past year.

Two of the attacks, which occurred last month, saw inspectors sent to hospital.

GREENS GIVE CAUTIOUS WELCOME TO ENVIRONMENT BUREAU

Green groups welcomed a policy bureau dealing with food safety and environmental health.

The bureau will also co-ordinate and direct environmental protection, waste management, food safety and nature conservation policy.

An advisory committee may also be set up to offer advice and monitor the Government's work.

Safety warnings given on visit

I refer to Karin Arsan's letter headlined 'Disgusting delivery system' (South China Morning Post, May 22).

The Urban Services Department health inspectors made two surprise visits to the food premises in Wellington Street and Lyndhurst Terrace on May 23 and 25, but did not spot any incidents of unhygienic meat delivery.
