Sex and violence drive technological innovation. Warfare as a locomotive for the development of cutting-edge technology is well-known. But the porn industry, especially the booming one in America, gets no recognition for the advances it helped make in internet commerce. This is an injustice.

Racy photo albums heat up book fair's first day

Shocked parents called for books featuring 'pseudo-models' to be relegated to an adult corner at the annual book fair as the racy photograph albums became the fastest-selling items on the first day yesterday.

The books, which do not contain nudity but emphasise the models' breasts and loins, were rated Class I - neither indecent nor obscene.

Having launched a campaign against porn websites in April, last week the authorities announced that their latest target was erotic fiction. There are at least 348 sites offering online sex stories, according to officials from the internet supervision section of the National Office of Anti-Porn and Illegal Publications.

Magistrate clears magazine of wet T-shirt child porn charge

Easy Finder magazine was acquitted yesterday of publishing child pornography when it ran pictures of a young pop singer in a wet T-shirt.

Kwun Tong Magistrate Gary Lam Kar-yan conceded that one of the four pictures of Renee Lee Wan, published last June when she was 14, did suggest the outline and shape of her left breast and nipple.
