On 11 August, Abercrombie & Fitch made landfall in Hong Kong. It is the label’s fourth store in Asia after Tokyo, Fukuoka and Singapore. The American retailer broke commercial real estate records by paying a whopping HK$7 million per month for a spot at the iconic Pedder Building, replacing long-time tenant Shanghai Tang. From now on, Pedder Street will never look, sound or smell the same.

The chain that created a bookshop culture in Taiwan is studying plans for more shops in Hong Kong and as many as four on the mainland.

Its management expects its unusual mix of merchandise to be a hit with customers from across the strait as well.

24-hour bookshop a first for the city

Taiwanese firm Eslite will open not just its first bookstore in Hong Kong next week but the city's first 24-hour bookstore.

The store, on three floors of Causeway Bay's new Hysan Place mall, will operate around the clock from Thursdays to Saturdays, at least initially.
