Lift strike stuck on day 3 as talks stall

Lift maintenance workers will continue their strike for a third day today after negotiations over a pay rise and staff shortages broke down.

'We failed to find common ground with the company,' workers' representative Mok Yun-chuen said yesterday. 'But we feel that the company has changed their attitude and that they are more sincere now.'

Firm refuses to accept blame for lift accident

A contractor denied yesterday it was to blame for a lift accident at a public housing estate in October. ThyssenKrupp denied it had failed to supervise the maintenance and repair of the lift, which was empty when it plunged 14 floors at Shin Nga House, Fu Shin Estate, in Tai Po on October 25. Patrick Lim, representing the company, requested time to find foreign lift experts.

Lift fall not our fault, says inspection firm

The company responsible for maintaining the lift that crashed 14 floors to the ground in a Tai Po public housing block in October denies it is to blame for the accident.

A government report released on Friday said the lift's counterweight mechanism was seriously corroded but had not been replaced.
