Size isn't everything

A host of celebrities and about 500 Audi fans had good reason to welcome the Q3 compact premium sports utility vehicle to Hong Kong this month.

The third and most compact member of the Audi Q series, the Q3 is available here in two models, both fitted with two-litre turbocharged, FSI petrol engines, a seven-speed S-tronic gearbox and quattro four-wheel drive.

Technical sophistication

Hooked on a feline

The Jaguar XF comes in several guises and engine sizes, and now there's a three-litre V-6 'Sport' model available in Hong Kong to complement this already sporty series. The Sport, which arrived last month, gives the XF slightly larger wheels, at 19 inches, and the bucket seats used in the racy XFR.

Wheels of fortune for mainland bureaucrats

Hong Kong may be gloating over its success as the world's top raiser of IPO funds, amounting to HK$440 billion in 2010. But that kind of money is peanuts on the mainland.

It would not even be enough to keep our senior comrades comfy in their luxury sedans.

Audi's Avant offers supercharged value for money

It takes a keen eye to spot the subtle visual differences that separate the new Audi S4 Avant from its less powerful and considerably cheaper sibling, the A4 Avant. Four exhaust pipes, skimpy side skirts and brushed aluminium door mirror covers are the only indications that this is in fact a Q-car, a veritable wolf in sheep's clothing.

Carmaker can be proud of 'Vorsprung durch Technik'

If there is any phrase in German that non-native speakers like to roll off the tongue with panache, it's probably Vorsprung durch Technik.

The advertising slogan, which means 'advancement through technology', was hatched in 1971 after the merger of Volkswagen, Auto Union and Neckarsulm-based NSU two years previously.

Straight line to goal

Avoid Munich on July 29-30 unless you like football. The Bavarian capital will be packed for the Audi Cup, a two-day, all-star kick about commemorating the four-ring marque's centenary at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. Bayern will host AC Milan, Manchester United and Boca Juniors, many of whose players and WAGs will be driven around town in a full range of Audis.
