Let's make up

One of the biggest leaps from girl to womanhood is the first taste of make-up. But for those who have already tried, you will know that putting the stuff on is not easy; it's a matter of science. Don't neglect your skin

6 Apr 2012 - 12:00am

This week we test: eye cream

The eyes are the windows to the soul. To keep them gleaming, it's important to take especial care of the skin around them, so apply an eye-specific cream every night before you hit the sack.

The Body Shop Elderflower Eye Gel (HK$105/15ml)

This clear gel is instantly cooling, but it doesn't seem to have a very obvious effect on dark circles.

22 May 2011 - 12:00am

This week we test: eye cream

If you're staying up late to study, and that lack of sleep is showing on your face, an eye cream can help to hide those signs.

Herbfarmacy Just Eyes Cream (HK$295/15g)

This lightweight cream may not have an immediate effect on dark eye circles, but the ginseng and arnica are definitely soothing and hydrating.

This week we test: eye cream

Say goodbye to puffy, dark eyes with a cream that soothes, moisturises and deflates

Fresh Lotus Eye Gel (HK$480/15ml) 6/10

On the plus side: this is non-greasy, instantly absorbed and you need very little to ease puffiness. On the downside: it has little effect on dark circles, and is super pricy.

Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream+ (HK$310/14ml) 9/10

Dandy & Dapper

I've seen lots of fake Ed Hardy iPhone covers around, which I don't want. I went to that shop in IFC but they didn't have any legit ones. What do I do now?

Powder room

Benefit's new Coralista blush (HK$280) is the ideal fun shade for spring. The warm coral tone gives the right hint of colour for the coming season. It includes a small brush for on-the-go application. Available from Faces, Harbour City, Lane Crawford, Pacific Place and Times Square, and Seibu, Kowloon Hotel and Langham Place.

Panda eyes: a universal problem

Lots of people suffer from dark circles under the eyes, but there are several ways to make things a little brighter

Boys and girls alike can be affected by dark circles under the eyes that make us look older, stressed and tired. Dark circles are the second most common skin complaint after acne.

9 Dec 2008 - 12:00am

This week we test: corrector

With the right shade of corrector, you can hide skin flaws and brighten your complexion. Simply apply it over your imperfections with a concealer brush or a finger. Green conceals veins and redness; yellow covers up blue tones and under-eye circles; purple counteracts yellow; pink adds a subtle glow to your skin; while blue neutralises orange tones.

Saving face

After last night's celebrations, the face staring back at you in the mirror might seem years old. The culmination of the festive season's excessive alcohol, cigarette smoke, stodgy food and late nights can add up to pasty skin and puffy dark circles under bleary eyes.

Top tips: healthy life

Former Miss Hong Kong-turned-actress Mandy Cho Man-lee (pictured) believes that one of the ways to keep fit and pretty is to lead a healthy life. Having sufficient sleep also helps.

'I spend most of my time sleeping as I think having enough sleep helps the skin to be healthier. Cosmetic products are also useful.

Tired eyes

Tired eyes, dark circles, dull dehydrated skin and bags that drop to the cheeks. Lack of sleep and too much stress can play havoc on the eye area. Drinking plenty of water to combat dehydration and using a good concealer can help alleviate the tell-tale signs and, of course, there are plenty of skin care products offering solutions. New ones include the Sisley Eye Contour Mask (HK$770, right).

Let's get it on

Most men have no idea how to properly apply makeup. Chantecaille's Gregory Messer says you should apply foundation or tinted moisturiser with your fingertips and blend downwards.

'Men have very tiny, fluffy whiskers on their upper cheeks, so you don't want to lift them up.
