Ed Macfarlane was with friends from the band Foals at a London restaurant the other day when he was recognised by a fellow diner. The Friendly Fires frontman was rather chuffed - not least because his perhaps-better-known mates went unnoticed.

Simpsons fanatics' blood may boil to see Family Guy (Star World; Monday to Friday, at 5.30pm) mentioned in the same sentence as their beloved cartoon but the similarities between the dysfunctional families featured in the shows are hard to miss.

Young hopes to lift fortunes of Moore

It's been a far from vintage last season or so for the former multiple champion trainer John Moore (right) but at least he appears to have a couple of likely griffins to look forward to in No Collateral and Strongheart.

Both of them ran in the third of four Sha Tin trials yesterday, the last two of which were reserved for griffins and run down the 1,000-metre chute.

Griffins expose weakness in depth

Saturday's meeting at Sha Tin was definitely one to keep close tabs on, with quality performances throughout the afternoon.

The nine-race card kicked off with an exciting griffin performance in the 1,400 metre Arctic Ocean Plate won by Lord Of Warriors.
