Dinner serves up food for thought

One night, my mother served green beans for my dinner. Oh no! How I hate them. They certainly didn't taste good.

When I was wondering how to get rid of those disgusting beans, a picture popped in my mind - thousands of starving children, all of them with a hopeless look. Day after day, they had nothing to eat or drink.

Famine has killed up to 2.4m, says US delegation

Famine has killed between 900,000 and 2.4 million people since 1995, a US delegation returning from a week-long inspection tour said yesterday.

Mark Kirk, majority counsel of the House of Representatives International Relations Committee, said other estimates of the death toll were much higher.

Famine appeal

WORLD Vision of Hongkong aims to raise $8.2 million through its annual ''30-Hour Famine'' campaign on March 28 to help the starving in Somalia. The charity plans to spend the money on food, agricultural tools and seeds.
