New rule on sale aimed at nation's farmland reserve

Local governments are banned from selling farmland for development until they have replaced it with another arable land of equivalent size, according to the Ministry of Land and Resources.

CHINESE agricultural officials have rung alarm bells over the drastic drop in farmland in the country, according to the Hong Kong China News Agency.
