Clothes certainly make the man (or woman), but the fashion faux pas of wearing the same jacket as your friend may have you wondering: "Where can I get affordable but unique luxury clothes?"

Designers are drawing inspiration from the "new geological age", marked by the effects of human activities on earth, to create clothes featuring a rustic texture and ethnic adornments.

Angelia Teo, Asia-Pacific content director at fashion and style forecaster WGSN, calls the theme "Neo-geo".

Luxury brands are increasingly reclaiming distribution rights from their mainland agents to assert tighter control of sales channels and better meet the growing sophistication of shoppers in the world's biggest luxury market.

The latest example is British fashion house Jimmy Choo, which has acquired its China business from partner Kutu.

It seems bigger is better when it comes to fashion labels and logos in Hong Kong.

You just need to do some so-called window shopping in Central to realise that Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo have got their branding down to an art form when it comes to the Asian consumer.

Shelf space over comfort at supermarkets

Any would-be cashier in a supermarket and other retail outlet needs to speak English to get the job. But it's not a stringent test because if they can say, "Do you need a bag?" they will get the job.

This is not the only sign of poor management practices.
