More information sought on labels

Nutrition professionals have called for more specific dietary information on food labels. A survey of the Dietitians Association and Nutrition Association found concern over a proposed mandatory food-labelling scheme. The scheme is due to be put to lawmakers next year.

Lawmakers pass motion urging ban on trans fats

Lawmakers passed a motion yesterday demanding the government ban trans fats in restaurant food, impose a cap on levels in local and imported foods, and set up a labelling scheme.

Legislator Albert Cheng King-hon, who put the motion in a Legislative Council meeting, said excessive consumption of trans fats would increase the risk of heart disease.

LAST year, Mademoiselle magazine published a study reporting that more women feared becoming fat than feared dying. I'm not sure how Mademoiselle goes about doing studies, or how authoritative they are, but if this one is true, it shows women these days have pretty interesting priorities.

Fat chance looks like a sound bet

THERE was plenty to like about the way Fat City went about his business last start when opening his winning account in Hongkong.

Coming clear off the field along with Va Vite, the pair had a tussle to the line, but Fat City - possibly helped by the slight ease in the track - went the stronger and held sway by half-a-length.
