Tough to get deals passed, says lawyer

GETTING joint venture contracts approved is a most complicated process in China, says the former chief architect of mainland regulations governing joint deals.

''A [Sino-foreign] joint-venture contract needs not only one approval, but 15 to 16 perhaps,'' Professor Liu Chu told a China law and practice seminar yesterday.

Split listing considered

HENDERSON Land Development chairman Lee Shau-kee has confirmed that the group is considering a separate listing for its China business.

He said a decision would be made after the completion of a feasibility study, which he expected during the next two months.
