Journey beyond wildest dreams

Many people have a wrong conception of Africa as a dark continent teeming with militants, deserts and slums. I was among 25 students from the University of Hong Kong's faculty of biological science who visited Kenya on an ecotourism tour last summer.

Why do dogs and cats have fleas?

Fleas need to feed on blood. They live on an animal so they can suck its blood, lay eggs and make more fleas.

Dogs and cats are ideal for living on. They are easy to jump on to because they are near the ground and down a lot.

Birds in peril find urban jungle haven

A PAIR of brown ducks with a flash of white serenely sailing on the Kowloon Park pond may not grab as much attention as the more exotic pink flamingoes standing one-legged by the water's edge.

Yet these ducks are a testament to Hong Kong's little-known work - at least within the territory - on the worldwide breeding of species threatened with extinction.

Wonderful creatures

EARLY this month, two baby cranes were born at Victoria Park.

As an admirer of birds, I wish them well. They are being well taken care of and protected. Fencing has been put up around the cage to ensure that the hatching and the new borns were not disturbed.
