As a 26-year resident of the city, I have mainly always been proud of Hong Kong. On Monday I felt shame, wondering whether I could even look at a domestic helper straight in the face, feeling that I and my fellow Hongkongers had somehow let them down.

Greener light bulbs targeted

Officials want to phase out millions of inefficient light bulbs and replace them with fluorescent ones that are up to 70 per cent more energy-efficient and last longer.

But the government has no plan to offer subsidies to help people switch to the greener lights.

Thin is in

LG Display has unveiled what it claims are the world's slimmest 42- and 47-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) television panels, each 5.9mm thick. The South Korean company's LCD panels employ a light emitting diode backlight system instead of the commonly used cold cathode fluorescent lamp to achieve its ultra-svelte profile.

Caution key when work becomes a big headache

I have just finished about two-thirds of a long project I was working on that required me to spend at least 12 hours a day at my computer. Since last week, however, I have been unable to spend more than two hours at work because of severe headaches. I know this is related to the time I spend staring at my screen, but I have to get this project finished.
