Formula One Season

200mph attempt to beat London traffic

You can tell it's the British Grand Prix this weekend because there are lots of news articles in the UK press about the possibility of a Grand Prix in London.

F1 race the last thing HK needs

There is no doubt that Formula One motor racing has a legion of fans in Hong Kong. A staggering 43,000 people showed up last weekend to see a lone car handled by up-and-coming Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari roar back and forth along a 600-metre stretch of harbourside road in Central.

Shanghai cruisers yet to change gear for fast lane

On any given Sunday, convoys of cars can be spotted cruising at a frustratingly slow pace along China's quasi-country roads. With hazard lights blinking, and badges and flags proudly declaring brand allegiance, the urban-dwelling men and women behind the wheel are members of a rapidly expanding number of car owner clubs.

Out with the old and in with the new is not doing F1 justice

Formula One heads towards the final phase of the 2006 season this weekend with the German Grand Prix. After the race at Hockenheim, two thirds of the racing calendar will have been ticked off, and just three European races will remain until the whole circus heads off on three 'fly-away' legs.

'It provides a couple of overtaking opportunities and I like the high-speed straight and slow corners at the beginning and end'

Is it a good place for a grand prix?

Aerodynamics rules need to be changed to make overtaking easier

Fernando Alonso is 24 on Friday. I'm not sure what you could buy a young man who has enough money in the bank to buy anything he desires himself. But last Sunday he was gifted a present that was worth more than anything that money can buy. His sixth win this season at the German Grand Prix means he is waiting for the world title more in expectation than hope.

First families of Formula One prove that speed is in the genes

If there was ever any doubt that sporting talent is implanted firmly in the genes, next season's Formula One championship should make it test-tube clear.

Schumacher deserved title

I HAVE read in your Monday November 15 issue that Britain's tabloid newspapers were questioning Schumacher's F1 world title victory after his collision with Damon Hill.

Although I understand the disappointment of the British that Hill did not win the championship, I think it is not fair to say that Schumacher robbed the title from his main rival.

Driven to distraction by threat of death

MOTOR racing is dangerous enough at the best of times but last Sunday I had to get through the German Grand Prix with the added complication of a death threat if I showed any signs of beating Michael Schumacher.
