A flair for French

Two students have had their linguistic and musical talents rewarded with a free trip to France this summer.

Ruby Wong Hiu-chun and Edward Yip Tsz-hin are both in their first year of an associate arts degree course in bilingual communication studies (French and English) at the Community College of the City University of Hong Kong.

Words that cause confusion

Do you know the difference between 'liaise' and 'liaison'?

Liaise (v) - to establish links with someone who works in another department or organisation. When companies or people liaise with each other, they work together and keep each other fully informed.

Liaison (n) - co-operation between two groups, parties or companies

That's life

IF the French are so incensed with keeping English out of their language then perhaps they would be so kind as to take back all the French in the English language.

For years English speakers (especially British English) have had alien sounding words and spellings that don't really fit the rules of English pronunciation.
