The public will have a chance to get up close to two mainland warships that escorted Hong Kong vessels through dangerous waters off Somalia and defended them from pirates when they visit the city next month.

Frigates visit after piracy mission

Two missile frigates that have protected civilian ships against Somali pirate attacks arrived in Hong Kong for a four-day call yesterday.

The ships, Zhoushan and Xuzhou, from the PLA Navy escort task force 529, will be berthed at Stonecutters Island barracks before returning to their base in Zhejiang province on Thursday.

Navies complete exercises

The navies of India and Singapore have completed a fourth round of joint manoeuvres in the Bay of Bengal in an effort to enhance ties.

One submarine and a frigate of the Indian Navy and two Victory class corvettes of the Royal Singapore Navy participated in the week-long exercise off the eastern Visakhapatnam coast.
