Chic Rue Madame puts the colour in summer couture

Chic Parisian fashion boutique Rue Madame hosted an arty event at Central's Opera Gallery on Tuesday to show the spring-summer collections of its eight new brands.

Mannequins were used to display the colourful collections against a backdrop of romantic paintings by Korean artist Kwon Ki-soo and stainless steel and copper sculptures by mainland artist Fan Xiaoyan.

High tees

If you thought the Americans had the monopoly on luxe tees, think again. Launched in 2005, French brand American Vintage has become a cult favourite with fashion insiders. Now the brand has opened its first Asia store, in Hong Kong. The 700 sq ft boutique stocks the brand's complete line of luxe basics for men and women, including tees, trousers, jackets, blouses, underwear and accessories.

Who started it? Susana Torrubia established her handbag and accessories label at her home in Malaga, Spain, in 2009. She had previously worked as an art director, in-house designer and fashion trend forecaster.

Buying happiness

February is quite simply an awful month for me. In just 28 days it contains Valentine's Day and my mother's and sister's birthdays. All three of which I consistently forget, alienating the women in my life within the space of a few days. It's not my fault though; I just don't buy into these corporate gift card holidays celebrating capitalist materialism.
