Workers killed on HK rail link

Two workers were killed and 14 others were buried when the steel frame of a tunnel being built for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail link collapsed.

Workers were reinforcing the tunnel's walls in Huanggang Park in the Futian district of Shenzhen on Thursday morning when the frame buckled, reports said.

Sceptical about the merits of high-speed cross-border rail link

In the report ('Light rail link planned to boost spur line', September 21), it was suggested that the planned high-speed rail link between West Kowloon and Shenzhen would be a threat to the existing Lok Ma Chau spur line connection.

I think this line as planned will not pose a threat to any current connections and may prove to be mostly redundant.

MTR link to Shenzhen to grow

The MTR Corporation will build an extension of the Shenzhen Metro that will help connect Hong Kong and a new town north of Shenzhen city.

Phase two of the Shenzhen Metro Line 4 will consist of 10 stations running through northern Shenzhen, including Lianhuabei, Longhua new town and Qinghu.

Traffickers jailed for forcing children to beg

A Shenzhen court has sentenced three people to up to two years in prison for trafficking in disabled children and forcing them into begging, mainland media reported yesterday.

It was the first time anybody had been convicted in Shenzhen of forcing others to beg, the reports said.
