Court lifts gag order on India gang rape trial

A defence lawyer says an Indian court has ruled that the media should be allowed to cover the trial of four men accused in the gang rape and fatal beating of a woman on a New Delhi bus in December.

Journalists had been barred by a court order from covering the trial, which is already underway.

A bone test is being conducted to confirm the age of a young suspect in custody in the fatal assault and gang rape of a woman on a bus in India’s capital, while prosecutors will seek the death penalty for five other men arrested with him, police said.

Five to face murder charges over India gang-rape

Indian police are expected to formally charge five of six suspects with murder in the death of 23-year-old woman who was raped on a moving bus in New Delhi.

The sixth suspect is under 18 and a juvenile.

 A police officer says they have ordered a bone test for the sixth accused to confirm his age. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to reporters.
