Swimmer's different stroke

Hong Kong swimmer Claudia Lau Yin-yan developed a passion for rap music when she wanted to listen to something upbeat that would get her adrenaline pumping before a competition.

Claudia broke both the Hong Kong women's 100 metres and 200 metres backstroke records and won a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay at last month's Asian Games in Guangzhou.

A hip-hop history

Hip hop is more than just a genre of music or style of dance - it is a cultural movement. It was initiated by the African-American youth in the Bronx, New York City, in the early 1970s.

The main elements of the hip hop culture are audio mixing and scratching (DJing), rapping (MCing), breakdancing, graffiti art, slang and fashion.

Del Amitri - Some Other Sucker's Parade (A&M) It's never been cool to like Del Amitri. Sure, they had a big hit around the turn of the decade with soulful ballad Nothing Ever Happens, but to be caught humming it was to be considered a bit soft.
