Place to call home in the heart of the city

Pilots have come to be associated with taking up residence on Lantau since the opening of Chek Lap Kok, but there are many who prefer living in the heart of the city.

That was the choice made by Australian couple Anthony and Merryn Alder, who have spent eight of their 21 years in Hong Kong as residents at Gateway Apartments in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Feeling on top of the world

With unobstructed harbour views and a central location in the hub of Tsim Sha Tsui, Gateway Apartments believes it has more selling points than its competitors and nearest neighbours.

More than 75 per cent of Gateway Apartment's tenants are long-stay clients, residing for at least a year. Over 95 per cent are expatriates.

Gateway Towers rents increase

Wharf (Holdings) has raised office rents in Gateway Towers in Tsim Sha Tsui by 5 to 12 per cent.

According to a market source, the developer raised the asking rent of the towers by $28.50 to $37 per square foot this month. The increases will be phased in.

Sino Land, another landlord in the area, raised rents 20 per cent this month.

Japanese firms win Gateway contract

TWO Japanese companies have been chosen to carry out the foundation work on Wharf's 2.7-million square-foot Gateway II project situated on the Kowloon waterfront.

Wharf said yesterday Japanese construction giants Kajima and Shimizu would form a joint venture to carry out work required for the $200 million project.

Gateway almost fully rented out

TSIM Sha Tsui's tallest building, the twin-towered, 36-storey Gateway, is almost fully leased after being on the market for only one year.

According to Harriman Leasing, the agent in charge of letting the 1.3 million sq ft commercial and retail building, there remains only about 200,000 sq ft left to lease.

Virtually everything else was spoken for, it said.

Gateway opens to HK buyers

FLOOR space at the huge mixed-residential-commercial complex Gateway Plaza in Shanghai will be offered for sale in Hong Kong next month, according to its developers.

The 240,000-square-metre complex in Xuhui district included 24,000 sq m of office space, 177,000 sq m of residential apartments and 18,700 sq m of shops, according to Ryoden Property Development.

Gateway secures 18 tenants

WHARF'S state-of-the-art 1.2-million-square-foot Gateway towers looks set to rival Times Square as tenants move to snap up space in the Tsim Sha Tsui development, according to Chris Reilly of Richard Ellis.

Gateway had already secured 18 tenants, he said, but was unwilling to say who they were.

Tenant for Gateway Towers

TEXAS Instruments has become one of the first office tenants to be signed up for Wharf's Gateway Towers development in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The American technology giant is upgrading from its present 20,000 sq ft office in Wharf's World Shipping Centre to 37,000 sq ft in Gateway Towers, which is under construction.
