Despite serious diplomatic tensions in the peninsula, South Koreans’ attention in recent weeks was focused on just one thing: whether Psy’s latest single would be another global hit or a mega flop.

Marwing rings up a long-priced treble and talks highly of Allan

There was a certain poignancy to Weichong Marwing's emergence as yesterday's star jockey just days after the passing of Ivan Allan and it was not lost on the South African rider.

Marwing brought home a long-priced treble on So Pretty So Smart, Super Gentleman and Chater Way to take the Jockey Challenge, then reflected on Allan's death last Wednesday.

Year of the Gentleman Ne-Yo (CD)

The style of the Rat Pack - singers and actors such as Frank Sinatra who were Hollywood stars in the 50s - and Nat King Cole's soulful voice were the inspiration behind multiple Grammy-winning R'n'B artist Ne-Yo's third album, Year of the Gentleman.

The album is a wonderful collection of inventive ballads, with an amazing level of musicianship and orchestration in each song.

Songs by a perfect gentleman

Dress-code views ridiculous

I refer to the letter which appeared in these columns on August 5, from Abdul Wahid and Fyzee Thambi, supporting Senior Superintendent Noel Howcroft's opinion with regard to women's dress on the MTR.

To say that women should have to cover themselves up due to 'how some men react to a scantily dressed female' is ridiculous.

The old one million for a cab fare trick

So our Mr Yam has seen off those nasty foreign speculators who would do in our dollar. The currency appears to be fire-proof and investors appear to believe the markets are well run. All signs of progress.

But isn't it interesting to hear that some business folk are preserving the old ways, and the following is an example of one of the oldest in the book.

A little plug for the Chief Justice

Why does everybody throw up their hands in horror at the thought of Sir Ti Liang Yang being selected as chief executive? He's a sweetie. And what's more he'd be good at the job.

That's the gist of a conversation From the Corridors had yesterday with a senior administrator who had worked closely with the Chief Justice.

New-age woman missing pleasure of being a lady

ONE point which has emerged glaringly in the last few weeks is this dogged determination, and thereby lack of self respect on the part of today's women, in wanting to go 'where no (wo)man has gone before'.

I am equally amazed at the South China Morning Post's narrow-minded editorial (January 3).

Etiquette you can always bank on

AN invitation to sup at Boodles, the ultra-exclusive gentlemen's club a short gallop away from Buckingham Palace, is a coveted one.

So when it came the way of marketing guru Ted Thomas during a recent visit to London, he grabbed it eagerly.

Gents just not gigolos

IN a Keeping Posted item about Princess Martha of Kiev we referred to the fifty-something lady of nobility as having been wined and dined by some distinguished gentlemen in this town, whom we said we had listed in our files under the category ''gigolo''.
