There is no doubt that the 185-metre Euromast tower in Rotterdam is one of the Netherlands' top attractions. As Holland is as flat as the proverbial pancake, this is one of the few places in the country that affords a panoramic view.

Going Dutch for a day

Ask people to name the leading tourist attractions of the Netherlands and they'll almost certainly say Amsterdam and The Hague. But Scheveningen is where the Dutch flock in summer, and even though most foreigners haven't heard of it, the tiny seaside town has almost 10 million visitors a year.

Atlantic route expansion

China Ocean Shipping Co (Cosco), K-Line and Yang Ming Marine are set to expand trans-Atlantic trade from early October using another five vessels.

'To provide the widest port coverage and best transit times, vessels will be deployed on two individual loops, four vessels covering the North Atlantic and five vessels covering the South Atlantic and Gulf,' a K-Line spokesman said.

Logistics centre for Rotterdam

German transport group Schenker International plans to invest an initial 20 million guilders (about HK$76 million) in a logistics centre in the Rotterdam port area, according to the port authority.

The centre will occupy 10,000 square metres and its offices will need another 2,000 sq m. The unit should be operational by June next year.

Expansion decision delayed

Sources say the Port of Rotterdam is unlikely to obtain quick approval from the Dutch Government for its expansion plans.

They said the Dutch cabinet had decided further talks should be held on the matter on July 1.

Dutch landmark to be built in Beijing

A 30-storey 'Holland House' is to be developed in Beijing as a focus of the Netherland's economic and political interests in the Chinese capital.

Construction is due to start later this year on the glass-towered landmark, styled after the Dutch Calvinism and Rotterdam architectural schools.

Cutch treat

IN MID-APRIL, rainbows stretch forever over the flat Dutch land. Sixteen thousand hectares of pale and deep pink, orange, purple, and yellows and reds so bright they scorch the eye. These are the tulip fields.
