Tony Cruz is resigned to the fact Blaze King can only win up the Sha Tin straight, so was thrilled when the rugged sprinter with the cowboy walk made the most of a rare opportunity and barrelled his way to a dominant Class One victory.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (Film)

For the record, I never thought the original Ghost Rider was all that awful. It's an ideal film for those switch-off-your-brain-and-enjoy-the-ride moments we get now and again. You may even come away with a new admiration for daredevil bike riders.

Yet the hugely disappointing 'sequel', Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, makes the first one look a likely Oscar contender.

Crazy Cage's flame goes out

Three months on, the cause of the city's deadliest fire in years is still a mystery, with the final results of the investigation not expected for months.

2 workers hurt in blaze at power substation

Two CLP Power workers were injured in a fire yesterday while conducting a routine check at a power substation in Kowloon City. The pair suffered burns on the face and arms when a blaze suddenly occurred at about 6am at the facility. The power firm said it has set up a task force to determine the cause of the fire.

Mother held after blaze forces boy to flee

A woman, 31, was arrested on suspicion of ill-treating her four-year-old son after fire broke out in their Ma On Shan public housing flat yesterday. The boy was alone at home when a television caught fire in the eighth-floor flat on Heng On Estate, police said. He ran out before firemen arrived. They put out the blaze in 20 minutes. More than 250 residents were evacuated.

Firemen find body after putting out fire

The partially charred body of a Thai woman in her 50s was found in a Kwun Tong flat after firemen put out a blaze last night. A neighbour suffered a cut trying to douse the flames and another suffered smoke inhalation. Both were taken to United Christian Hospital. The blaze on Shun Tin Estate started at about 10pm.

Arson attack leaves motorbikes damaged

Seven motorcycles parked in Kwai Chung were seriously damaged in an arson attack early yesterday. Firemen were called at 4.22am after the blaze broke out under a footbridge in Shek Pai Street. They doused the flames at 4.52am. Police found the blaze suspicious because there were two sources of fire and a burned piece of paper was discovered about 50 metres away.

50 flee blaze, which leaves three injured

Three people, including two police officers, were sent to Ruttonjee Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the Yee Hing Building on Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, at 6.55pm. Fifty people fled the fire, which police said was started by residents' worshipping activities on the roof. Firemen put out the blaze at 8.49pm.

Leisure venue fire kills 11

Eleven people were killed early yesterday when a blaze ripped through a two-storey entertainment centre in Chengde county, Hebei province .

County authorities initially said the blaze broke out in a karaoke bar, but later said it started in the Blue Sky foot spa, on the floor above the bar. The building was partly residential.

Suicide suspected as cause of blaze in flat

A fire-investigation dog was sent in to sniff for flammable materials after the charred body of a 38-year-old man was found in bed inside a Sham Shui Po flat yesterday. Firemen evacuated five residents from the eight-storey building when a fire broke out in the sixth-floor unit on Castle Peak Road at 8.14am. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found the body of tenant Law Wai-shing.

Kitchen blast injures 2, sends dozens fleeing

A blaze triggered by a suspected gas explosion in a tiny room seriously burned a couple and drove dozens of residents from a building into the street in Shek Kip Mei last night.

The blaze broke out just before 6.30pm when the man was cooking on an LPG stove in the couple's room in a partitioned flat on the second floor of a five-floor building in Tai Po Road. It spread quickly.
