Gloria's extra time

TAKING in a spot of culture on World the other night in the shape of thespian Jean Claude Van Damme's deeply moving, filmed-in-Hong Kong Bloodsport, we couldn't help noticing a familiar face in the crowd, as it were.

Expat way to murder Cantonese

WITH localisation on most expatriate minds, Chinese-language teachers have become the practical signs of social success.

For the moment, learning Chinese in Hong Kong has been deemed politically correct.

When birds of a feather mock together

MANY years ago, their ancestors migrated to the West, looking for cooler weather and greener feeding grounds. Once they had settled, eggs were laid and chicks were born.

A measure of your true worth

WHEN a certain princess kissed an uncertain prince and found she had married a toad, she consoled herself with the fact that at least she was rolling in dough.

It didn't matter to her that he had a face like a loving cup and a strange fondness for sheep.

Cast in the mould of an invader

DURING the winter months and all through spring it grows and strengthens itself for attack. It lies in wait, able to blend in with any environment as it spreads across enemy territory.

Many have tried to stop this deadly force, but to no avail. Like spiralling inflation on the mainland, it is out of control.

Glorious Gloria has eyes for script only

WERE my eyes deceiving me? Tuning in to Gloria Wu on TVB's Maxwell Music Motion, I sat back as the radiant presenter introduced a video by Celine Dion (she of Beauty and the Beast fame).

But what followed was Eurythmics moll Annie Lennox - yes, one-time live-in of Chingford Man, Dave Stewart.
