Model exhibits artworks crafted in lonelier times

Long before she became a canvas for fashion designers, model Cara Grogan worked on her own canvasses. The Melbourne native now has a chance to show off her hitherto unknown artistic talent in an exhibition at Lucky Brand Jeans' IFC shop. A painting and two sketches by Grogan (below) join other works in an in-store display of Hong Kong talent that went up yesterday.

Deadly sharks are so abundant people catch them off balconies

A species of deadly shark has become so numerous in Australia that locals are catching them by dangling a line from apartment balconies and back gardens.

Amateur anglers along the creeks and canals of the Gold Coast in Queensland have caught three-metre-long Bull sharks with nothing more sophisticated than a pork chop taken from the barbecue and attached to a hook.

Gold Coast blues

Feel pity for me. Here I am, on Australia's Gold Coast, a place I have not set foot on for a good dozen years: I may as well be an alien.

In fact, I have even tried to make that point by wearing my shorts on my head and making 'gareenk, gareenk, galosh' noises, but it seems that that is normal here as well, so something even stranger is in order.
