Missing chairman votes against sale of Akai

Disgraced tycoon James Ting has resurfaced for the first time in two years with an attempt to block the planned sale of the listing shell of his bankrupt Akai Holdings.

Mr Ting has not been seen in Hong Kong since he disappeared from view in late 2000, leaving behind the biggest corporate collapse in Hong Kong's history.

Grande in $181.4m buy

Grande Holdings, though its wholly owned Tomei Technologies unit, has entered into an agreement to buy the entire issued share capital of Tomei International BVI for a cash consideration of HK$181.42 million from group affiliate Toyo Holdings.

Struggling firm's fate lies with Grande

Grande Holdings, the Hong Kong computer components and electronics group, is in talks to refinance a British logistics to cars company in a deal that could be worth as much as GBP2.5 million (about HK$31.13 million).

Peter Mottershead, managing director of the British firm, Ross Group, said an announcement could be made as early as today.
