Lacklustre demand for China Telecom's scrip

Shares in fixed-line giant China Telecom edged down as much as 1.4 per cent after the company announced the over-allotment option to its recent global offering was only 41.6 per cent exercised.

A PROSPECTUS FOR a new issue on the stock market is an awkward thing. It is the formal and binding document that fully describes an offering but it requires that a price be fixed and that a signature go into the blank space immediately below the underwriting agreement.

Impressive debut

Jilin Province Huinan Changlong Bio-Pharmacy made an impressive debut on the Growth Enterprise Market yesterday. Its shares closed at HK$1.39, or 2.78 times the initial public offering price of 50 HK cents. Changlong was the first mainland bio-pharmaceutical company to list on the second board. It raised HK$75 million through the placement of 150 million H-shares.

SIIC over-allotment exercised

BNP Prime Peregrine Securities, on behalf of the underwriters, has fully exercised the over-allotment option in respect of 32.2 million additional new SIIC Medical Science and Technology (Group) shares. The over-allotment shares, to be issued and allotted at $1.63 each, are expected to be listed tomorrow.

Drug firm to raise $329.8m

Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Co will try to raise more than $329.8 million through an H-share listing this month, market sources say.

The largest Chinese patent medicine maker and trader is to sell 219.9 million shares before an over-allotment option at between $1.50 and $1.88 each.

China Resources Beijing Land, the mainland property arm of China Resources Enterprise, has announced the issue of US$150 million worth of convertible bonds, due in 2004.

Pacific Ports increases issue

Pacific Ports Co, whose shares make their debut on the stock exchange today, says it has exercised an over-allotment option enabling the issue of an additional 30 million shares.

It said the extra shares, at the same issue price, represented about 3.6 per cent of the enlarged share capital of the company. The sale will yield a net $90.4 million.

The public offer of Shum Yip Investment, the Hong Kong window company of the Shenzhen municipal government, is 438 times subscribed.

Peregrine Capital has exercised the over-allotment option in full, requiring Shum Yip to issue an additional 37.5 million shares at $1.85 each.
