Greyhound owners are rebelling over the mass killing of retired racing dogs at the Macau Canidrome, where animals are euthanised at the rate of more than 30 a month despite an outcry from welfare groups worldwide.

Problem lies with local teachers

I refer to the letter by Rob Leung ('NETs should be replaced by locals', July 17) in reply to my letter ('Disappointed by standard of English', July 10).

I don't think you can blame native English-speaking teachers for the poor standard of English in Hong Kong.

Record is matched after 26 years wait

THE longest-standing record in world greyhound racing was equalled at the Macau Canidrome last weekend, but few in the 3,000 crowd realised they were watching sporting history being made.

Smart Irish import Ruscar Dan, whelped in October 1989, clocked a time of 26.8 seconds for the 490-yard trip, winning by half the straight.
