Baby-smuggling racket uncovered in Guangdong

Guangdong police say they have discovered a baby-smuggling operation that allegedly bought and sold more than 30 babies in four years.

Police in Yunan city have arrested 24 people believed to be involved in baby trafficking in southern China. Some suspects are still being sought.

Bank robbery crackdown urged

Guangdong police and bank officials called a special conference yesterday to discuss how to tackle the sharp rise of bank robberies in the province.

Deputy Public Security Director Wu Zeyao urged officers to be vigilant and called on banks to join the police in the fight against crime.

GUANGDONG police yesterday deported a Hong Kong man wanted in connection with a robbery in Hunghom last year. The 32-year-old suspect was handed over to detectives at Lok Ma Chau border.
