Consumers get poor-quality farm produce, while the best goes overseas

Despite another bumper grain harvest, the ninth year of record output in a row, the quality of produce sold to domestic consumers in China continues to be a problem.

Plentiful Harvest looks very hard to beat in tonight's fifth event at Happy Valley and is worth taking in a solid double with Seattle Pride in the fourth.

Plentiful Harvest appears to be another case of a horse thriving after changing stables.

Grain harvest to rise 2pc

China's summer grain harvest is expected to rise 2 per cent over last year's, according to Xinhua (the New China News Agency). It quoted Zhou Mingchen, president of the China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Import and Export Corp, as saying China will take an 'active part' in international trading to dispose of surplus crops and supplement any deficiency.
