The 22-year-old was first admitted to the arts faculty of the University of Hong Kong in 2010, but she was given a sabbatical to prepare for the 2012 Summer Games in London. Students are usually only granted a maximum two-year extension to complete a three-year degree, meaning she would have had until 2015 to finish her studies.

The Hong Kong Windsurfing Association is confdent Hayley Chan Hei-man will be fit in time for the Olympics as she struggles to recover from three broken ribs.

Chan, 21, (pictured) who sacrificed a year's study at the University of Hong Kong to train for the chance to compete in London, suffered a training accident in England earlier this month.

Chan may yet make Olympics debut

The Hong Kong Windsurfing Association has not ruled out the possibility of Hayley Chan Hei-man still making her Olympic debut in London after the 21-year-old was discharged from hospital, just over a week after being involved in a collision with a racing dinghy while training.

Broken ribs and dreams

Hayley Chan Hei-man's Olympic dreams have been shattered. A training accident left the Hong Kong windsurfer, pictured, with three broken ribs. She is in hospital in Britain.
