The Health Department has been asked to step up controls on private hospitals after an audit report showed that written warnings for serious irregularities were not issued.

Severe stress hits 1 in 15; turn new leaf, they're told

Under stress? Then drink green tea.

That is the advice of the Health Department for the more than 300,000 people said to be suffering from severe psychological stress.

A survey by the department found 6.7 per cent of the respondents suffered such distress, meaning they had temporary or long-term negative emotions.

I was astonished to learn recently that the Health Department conducts inspections of drug manufacturers only twice a year.

Hong Kong also relies heavily on a single source for its drug supply. These things tell me the medical supervision system is not good enough.

Knowing how to reduce pressure is vital.

Patients' details stolen from clinic

The personal data of 665 patients has been stolen from a Tuen Mun clinic, while it was revealed yesterday that a hospital also had lost patients' data.

In both cases the information had been stored on a USB flash drive.

The theft at the Tuen Mun Child Assessment Centre happened last Friday when a medical officer left the device in her unlocked office.

Full morgue led to bodies stored on floor

The Health Department admitted four bodies had briefly been placed on the floor at Fu Shan Public Mortuary on Tuesday morning when it was busy.

The case came to light when some Chinese-language newspapers published a mortuary worker's complaint about the incident.

36 arrested in club drug raid after police follow their nose

Thirty people were arrested on suspicion of taking drugs after having their nostrils examined at a nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui early yesterday.

A further six people were arrested for possessing dangerous drugs or drug-trafficking.

Aids education a priority

It is generally believed that Aids education among homosexuals should be improved since the incidence of HIV infections among men who have sex with men is escalating.

The Health Department has provided a filmmaker with funds to produce a 30-second advertisement to raise general awareness of Aids.
