When the side rearview mirror of a black Honda bumped a 10-year-old girl on her way home from school, the driver - instead of helping the child - insulted and hit the mother. "I come from an influential family," the driver said.

Chinese condom maker barred over concerns in Africa

Henan authorities have ordered a condom maker to suspend sales of its products, recently found to be problematic in Ghana, because they could tarnish the reputation of Chinese exports to Africa. The Henan Food and Drug Administration launched a product quality probe and banned the sale of condoms made by the Xibei Latex Company.

Rights groups and Aids activists have appealed to Henan's provincial government for the release of at least four people with HIV/Aids who were detained during a protest by some 300 people affected by the disease in front of the government compound on Monday.

Hundreds of pigs have been found dead in a northern province - this time together with scores of dogs. A total of 410 pigs and 122 dogs were discovered in homes and at farms this week in a village under the jurisdiction of the city of Yanshi in Henan province, authorities said yesterday.

Authorities launched the unpopular policy of demolishing tombs in 2012. Henan’s provincial government said it was necessary to provide more land for agriculture. More than two million tombs had been destroyed since March 2012, the government claimed.
