A reader recently asked me for tips on how, and when, to switch careers. It's a question I've been asked a few times recently.

I've done a lot of research on this topic and would like to share with you some of the things I've learned.

All at sea was simply great way to be

IT was 1963 when I left school at Dartford Technical College and my home in South London to join the Royal Navy.

Letdown for marine heroes

As Dragon Boat fever sweeps through the territory, spare a thought for daft Lamma-ites who forget to check their boats for whopping big holes.

A team of strapping lads from the island decided to borrow the Lamma Ladies' team boat for a spin. The crew soon found themselves in deeper and deeper water.

Poisoning the roaches

MY thanks to S. Mann (South China Morning Post, December 7) for enlightening me on the problem of cockroaches on the No.1 minibus.

Hype hits skids as rally revs up

IT'S 9.30 am at HMS Tamar, the Royal Navy's Hong Kong base on Stonecutter's Island, and the string of farces which will come to characterise the opening of this year's Hong Kong-Beijing Rally is about to begin.
