Storming effort puts Star in Trophy frame

One of the vexing questions of the last season has been the wait for the emergence of a new star to assume Mr Vitality's mantle as champion sprinter of Hong Kong.

But that wait may be over if Bumper Storm races up to appearances in next Wednesday night's Happy Valley Trophy.

TT hunters can bank on Bounty

A healthy $13 million is carried forward to tomorrow night's Triple Trio at Sha Tin for which Bounty Guard looks banker material in the final leg.

The popular exotic wager operates as usual on races three, four and six and requires punters to find the first three, in any order, in all three events.

Cheung's Bounty for next year

It has been a tough season for the affable local handler Chris Cheung Ting-pong. There has been a cloud hanging over most of his horses for much of the campaign and then when he does set one brilliantly for a race, such as Surely Wonderful at Happy Valley recently, he gets knocked off on the line at huge odds.

Cruz factor keeps punters on target

TONY Cruz is the jockey to keep firmly on your side at tonight's dreary all-weather meeting at Sha Tin. The multiple former champion jockey, going all out to notch a sixth title, can complete a first and last race double on Top News and Bounty with the latter looking exceptionally hard to beat.

A Bounty full of promise for Chan

AN unusually busy day at the track yesterday with Tony P. H. Chan's Bounty putting in one of the most interesting pieces of work.

Bounty finally came good to land a handsome touch for connections down the straight 1,000-metre course going back three starts, having shaped with plenty of promise in some eye-catching runs prior to that effort.

Bounty's run gives Legrix double New Year cheer

ERIC Legrix started the New Year on a much healthier note with an opening double at Sha Tin yesterday.

The French riding star was at his most sympathetic on Patrick Biancone's Long Run who was not troubled to take the first griffin event of the season as his 6-5 starting price and his trackwork indicated he would.

Horse Racing

THERE should be a big improvement by Plentiful Harvest following his debut run in yesterday's second griffin event where he was given no respite from the front under a far from patient ride from Johnny Ho.

The same can be said of the Basil Marcus-ridden Turf Champ. These two horses went hammer and tongs in front over the 1,235-metre course - a very stern test.
